Halloween

It's UEA break for my kids, we started by reorganizing their rooms, which turned into me making new pillow covers and then it snowballed from there.
I bought this fabric 2 years ago, with great plans for it, well, as you can tell, those dreams weren't long lived *small giggle*

But today just seemed right for a project. So I ventured to make cushion covers, a match fabric banner, & a table runner. Fabric banners are such a cute way to dress things up, I'm thinking of making some for my hula girls!

Thrift store find

Picked this up a DI for $1.50, one of the reasons I love thrift stores! It's pretty ornate & didn't need much, just a new coat of paint. One of my new favorite spray paints is Rust-oleum metallic. For this project I used black.

Brilliant Metal Finish

I started out wanting to just paint the wood frame around the metal design, but I ended up spraying the entire piece. I wanted to get rid of the rust.

I love the finish the paint gave it & didn't need to add another coat to seal it.

So here is the before & after.

The Bench Project

The bench redo I did w/ my cousin Leti! She picked up a piece at DI & we recovered the top w/ that beautiful yellow chevron print outdoor fabric. And painted it a charcoal gray. We spent the afternoon working on this & some Banbury donuts yum! This was an easy & fun project.

Scrap Apron

I recently did a project with my cousin Leti of My Sweet Disposition. The next morning the left over fabric was staring me in the face. This fabric was just too cute to leave in a scrap pile, so the sewing began. It's been so long since I've actually done a sewing project and boy did it feel SO good! By the time I was done, I was ready to start a new project! That extra burst of energy was short lived lol!  It was a sew as you go type of project w/ no pattern but I am eager to make another one soon!

Life...

It's been some time since I have visisted this blog. It seems with life, I have lost a little of the passion & love I have for crafting. When more important issues are at hand, the little things this hula girl enjoys have taken a back seat. BUT the love is still there! I've done projects here & there but not taken the time to post pictures. Soon enough I will be back at it, filling your readers list with posts.

Baby gift

This was a rushed project that practically pushed all the othera a month out lol. Babies come when they want :) The front and back are baby fleece and I lined the center with quilting batting to give it some substance. I didn't take step by step pics because I was in such a rush, got these done in an hour.

Bead Ring

Have you ever come across a bead, broach, or old earring and thought, hmmm "that would make a cute ring!" I do that ALL the time, sometimes, it gets a little obsessive. But why not! It's making your own accessories! That's what jewelers do! I am in no way a jeweler, I do do all that sauntering and am not nearly as talented! So the next project is a simple way to make your own fashion rings.

Started out with a some beads, wire clippers, and a file.

Don't forget the glue!

Bead and a ring blank

Glue and let it set!

These were given as gifts and my sister and I searched everywhere(not really) for ring boxes and could not find any. So we bought these boxes from Roberts.

But wanted the rings to "stand" rather than just lie in the box. So I drew up a template and cut it out of card stock.

Then scored the edges Cut a slit for the ring and insert into the box.

And here is the finished ring and box.

I'm baaaaaack!!

Wow, it's been some time since I have posted! Forgive me for neglecting this blog. Here's a post that will hopefully hold me over til I get my to do list going. I ordered my vinyl from my favorite lady, Sisilia over at Silly Vinyl Design she's my go to gal when it comes to vinyl. Trust me, she will not disappoint!

I started with a mirror that I purchased as Deseret Industries for .50 cents!

And applied the vinyl. Wah lah!

Here it is in it's place.

Boooo!

Yup, I'm still here. Life hit me and my much needed, and much coveted craft time has come to a minimum. My craft to do list has become taller than all 5'5 of me.
Fall is in full swing, the Halloween decor is up and I've been planning our Activity Day "Ghouls Nigh In". I had to find something the girls would love to do, AND it had to be cheap. With 16 girls in our program, cost is a priority. Happy Halloween and don't worry, I'm working on that giveaway, its at the top of my list.

Zipper + flowers..... say whaaaa?

One of my favorite things to do is look through pattern books. I'm one of those that start at the back and work my way to the cover. I scan pictures, visual elements then I'll go back and read lol. Anyhow, several months ago, my sister and I were flipping through and this zipper flower on a cuff.

Start by making a straight stitch along the bottom of your zipper with the teeth up. You can use varying lengths. It does not have to be exact. Mine were probably about 1/4-1/2".

When you get to the end, start pulling on your thread to get it to curl around and ruffle. You can pull with your hands to adjust it how you want.

Finish gathering the edges of the zipper and mold it into a circle

secure the back by sewing stitches through the layers of the zippers.

Add a button or whatever you'd like and your are done.

Ruffled Enemy

The last couple of dresses, I could sew in a couple of hours. This dress.... almost 2 months! Its been a ruffled mess lol. It was hard for me because of the fabric. Never again. The next time I make a ruffled anything, it will be out of cotton, linen, or knit. I was going to make a companion dress for my 2nd hula girl, but I have decided against it. We'll see if the decision still stands by the end of the week.

I am finally done with this monster of a dress. No pattern, just the trends I see that are "in" right now, and this is my interpretation of it. And yet I'm still not satisfied with it. Maybe I should shorten the top of the skit of the dress. Hmmmmmmm... or maybe I should just leave it alone and call it a day.
